Ha!

BBC - Heald insists Tories are not bust

The Conservatives are "not bust", said frontbencher Oliver Heald in evidence to an anti-sleaze watchdog probe.

He should have added "At least not financially."

BBC - Blears denies Labour cash crisis

Labour party chairman Hazel Blears has denied Labour faces financial crisis after a report that backers want loans worth millions returned.

Maybe not financially in crisis, but let's not forget leadership, public confidence and morality, areas to which the word "crisis" could be applied.

Hazel Blears has got even more to worry about in the light of the results of the LabOUR/YouGov poll published in yesterday's Guardian.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/print/0,,329507268-117700,00.html

This will have reprecussions for some time to come. LabOUR chair Michael Meacher was on the BBC Politics Programme at lunch-time today.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/politics_show/default.stm

and the story is being picked up as Labour will lose the next election, unless....

The full results will be published on the new LabOUR website tomorrow, and if time permits on the Save the Labour Party website later today.

A Principled Approach to Party Funding leaflet was circulated at the Compass conference written by MPs Michael Meacher, Jon Trickett, MSP Elaine Smith and others. It will be on the StLP website shortly. The NEC has circulated a consultation document, which we hope will be considered alongside our leaflet and judged on their respective merits.

The deadline for submissions to the Labour Party is 31 July.
